Book Review: Wheat Belly

What a fascinating read!  In this book, William Davis makes the case that wheat (used interchangeably with gluten) is detrimental to our health.  This goes against…

Well...that went by FAST. Adios, 2018! What a hard and sweet year. I don’t want to keep this pace up for any longer than I have to, but I’m pretty proud of myself and my little people for hanging tough. I’ve passed my first section of the CPA exam (!!), I’m about a third of the way through grad school, and in a couple of days I’ll add to that a full-time internship at a firm (that I could not be more excited about!). Cate is killing it in kindergarten this year, and Charlie is the dinosaur king at daycare. There’s a lot of love in my life right now, and I’m feeling pretty darn lucky. I’m usually big on reflecting and setting intentions for the new year ahead, but even the most well-intentioned ideas seem so...out of place...for this chapter in my life. When you’re functioning in survival-mode, you just have to let some things go! If I pass the rest of the CPA exam, finish school, get a job, our country doesn’t self-destruct, and my kids don’t end up in a gang, I’ll consider 2019 a raging success. Thanks for sticking with me! When life slows down a bit, I hope to return to this place (and my kitchen) more often! I would love to hear what big plans and goals you have for 2019! #cleanfoodcleanplate #newyear #realfood #cleanfood
I’ve styled a lot of food in my day, but this is my favorite. 😍 Messy piles of sugar made by the sweetest little hands. Santa, we are ready for you! Cookie deets 👉 @savoringtheflavoring butter cookies topped with buttercream frosting. Hope you have the Merriest Christmas! #cleanfoodcleanplate #christmascookies
Woke up today feeling extra thankful!! I got to spend Thanksgiving in Seattle with one of my besties from college and her brand new perfect little baby girl. Overcast walks in the PNW, an afternoon of cooking, and food and wine induced naps= perfection. Also we’ve really upped our yogurt game since college- check this beauty out. 😍 plain whole milk yogurt, homemade granola, and allll the berries. hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! #yogurtbowl #breakfastofchampions #cleanfood #realfood #granola #organic #cleanfoodcleanplate
New recipe on the blog! Leftover Turkey Gumbo | if you’re thinking I have enough free time to develop new recipes, guess again. I’ve been saving this one since LAST post-Thanksgiving, and, trust me, baby, it was worth the wait. It’s quite possibly my most favorite and delicious recipe EVER. Save your turkey leftovers AND your bones. This 2 day process begins with making a rich bone broth that you’ll use as a base for the gumbo on day 2. It’s loaded with veggies, Turkey, and sausage, drowning in the most perfect roux, with just the right kick 🤤 If you’re sick of cooking this week, you can freeze your leftovers and bones and make it later. Bookmark this one- as much as I love turkey sandwiches, nothing beats this. Hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving! <link in bio> #cleanfoodcleanplate #cleanfood #thanksgiving #bonebroth #leftovers #realfood #comfortfood #eatmoreveggies
Hey hey it’s my BIRTHDAY!! This morning, my 5 year old, Cate, asked what kind of birthday i was having (you know, like a theme), and I told her that grown ups don’t really have a kind of birthday. Not satisfied with this answer, she started brainstorming themes. At the same time, she decided I should have a “work” birthday, since I’m at work today, and i decided I should have a “rain” birthday since it was raining this morning. So she exclaimed, “a rainy work birthday!!!” like it was the greatest thing ever. Yep. Just the kind of day everyone wants to celebrate their 33rd year on 🙄🤣 while she may not pick up on life’s little nuances, she gets an A+ for attitude. What made this rainy work birthday better 👉 a little break at @eioandthehive for this blackened salmon kale Caesar with almond butter dressing and a cashew matcha latte. And the best lunch date 💕
My favorite little nugs in one of my favorite little places. Came home after bedtime last night with 2 filthy happy kids after a day at @rosiebellefarm. We tried milking a goat, fed pigs, chased chickens, decorated cookies, and these two kiddos stole more than their fair share of apples. (Swipe ➡️) I caught up with my dear friend @chelseayoungyogi and met an old Instagram friend @laura.jauregui IRL for the first time. We all ate chili in the farmhouse and roasted s’mores around a bonfire. And I got to squeeze the farmers who made it all happen. Thank you for another great Farm Day!!
